The Hall of Pleasure's Cool Breeze

The Sukh Niwas was an early form of air conditioning. It used a clever system where cool water flowed through channels in the walls, and breezes passing over it cooled the entire hall.

1. Water Source

Water was lifted from Maota Lake to a channel running along the top of the hall.

3. Cooling Effect

This created a natural evaporative cooling effect, making the hall a pleasant retreat from the summer heat.

A Living Heritage Site

Today, Amber Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site, celebrated for its stunning architecture and rich history. Its unique blend of styles tells the story of a powerful Rajput kingdom navigating the cultural landscape of Mughal India.

The Legend of Sila Devi

The fort houses the revered Sila Devi temple, dedicated to an incarnation of the goddess Kali. Legend says that Raja Man Singh I brought the idol from Bengal after a victory. The goddess appeared to him in a dream, asking to be retrieved from the sea and installed in his capital, becoming the patron deity of the Kachwaha clan.
